Peak Performance
A practical cognotive approach to stress management

Stress can show itself in many forms and situations. Sometimes we might not even be mentally aware that we are stressed and it is others that identify it for us. This 2 day combined Training/Coaching Programme is aimed at helping Leaders, Teams and Individuals become knowledgeable about the nature of stress and how to recognise, manage and prevent it for themselves and others.

Objectives

  • To define stress and have a practical knowledge of modern models used in identifying causes, effects and remedial actions.
  • Be familiar with how to prevent stress at the individual and organisational levels.
  • To understand the psycho-physiology of stress and develop a range of techniques and strategies to tackle it.
  • To specifically recognise and correct thinking errors that interfere with performance and behaviour.
  • To identify the organisational symptoms of stress and what strategies can be undertaken to prevent and manage it.
  • Create a Stress Management Plan.

Who would benefit

This Programme can be adapted for organisational or personal stress and benefits Individuals, Teams and Leaders by:

  • helping them identify what is currently causing stress.
  • being aware of how it affects them personally and others.
  • coaching them through techniques that will help them prevent or manage stressful situations for themselves and others.
  • helping them take control of their own response to stress thus creating more balanced and healthier home and work environments.

It is envisaged that for Teams this programme would be run after a Work-related Stress Risk Assessment had been completed.

Day 1: Analysis and Solutions

AM: This session is aimed at helping participants understand what stress is, why it is important to be aware of how it can affect us and how to manage it. Using the Multi-modal Transactional Model of Stress, it explains what our Psycho-physiological response to stress is. It defines and raises awareness of Type A behaviour and varying Locus of Control to give participants an insight into how they are personally prone to stress.

PM: This session allows participants to explore the cognitive-behavioural affects of stress by introducing them to the ABCDE model. They experience how our thoughts and attitudes affect our behaviour and response to stress and how by correcting our thinking errors, we can improve our ability to manage stress more effectively.

Day 2: Identification, Prevention and Cure

AM: Participants are introduced to a portfolio of preventative management techniques from lifestyle management, self management, relaxation, physical and emotional outlets to an awareness of when counselling and medical care may be necessary.

PM: This session introduces a formula by which to identify topical causes of stress with the use of a Stress Mapping tool. Participants are then given the opportunity to target an identified cause and apply the techniques and knowledge gained to develop a Stress Management Plan.
